Hi, Tell us your name, what you do, and about your business.
My Name is Tanya Levy. I have been working in the wellness industry for 25 years. I am a facilitator for change and personal development.
Purpose helps people to reprogram beliefs, habits, and behaviors, with new self-enhancing ones, reducing stress and allowing access ones “full response potential” to create a life full of joy and purpose.
I achieve this through yoga, meditation, intuitive healings, personal development sessions, local and international retreats, and weekend workshops.
What’s your own background. Were you always proficient in this business, or did it just strike your mind one fine day?
My background is in Marketing and Event Management. I used to work in a very stressful job at Coles Myer PTY. Ltd. I was always looking for ways to help manage stress and lead a balanced life.
One day I was stopped by a woman in Coles Myer and told me that her Aunt, who is a Psychic, had a message for me from my late mother.
I was not into the healing arts or anything alternative at that stage and was floored by the comment. I responded with “take me to straight away”.
The next night I met her Aunt. She re-accounted numerous occasions where I had wished that my mom was present in my life. She told me she was there.
She knew so many private things about me and my family, with regards to my Mum. I was astounded and said “If you can do this so can I, please teach me “ So began my journey into the healing arts.
The first meditation, then yoga, healing, astral traveling and so on. Over time, left my job at Coles Myers, went to India to visit an old friend, and stayed there on and off for the next 4 years, immersing myself in Yoga, meditation and various healing modalities and experiences.
All I wanted to do was help people. I knew it was my purpose. When I returned to Melbourne, people came to me to learn yoga and meditation, from this my business was born.
What went into designing the initial product? Can you take us through the actual process?
I and my experiences are what makes up my product. Everything I teach and every process I use is a direct result from my personal experience of dealing with stress, death, divorce, children, and life.
My purpose, to help people, was burning brightly in my heart. I knew that was my vision I just wasn’t sure how it would transpire. When I arrived home from my travels and education, people came to me wanting to know more.
In the mid 90’s yoga, meditation and healing were not so mainstream. People I knew sought me out. I responded to the demands in front of me initially. Then I focused on the tools that helped me and began to share them with others.
Talk us through the process of the launch of your business
After working at Coles Myres for 4 years I decided that I would travel. I spent most of my time abroad in India, learning yoga, meditation and getting to know my essential nature. On my return, all my friends and family wanted to learn yoga and meditation with me.
They insisted on coming to classes. This slowly grew into 5 classes a week of yoga with 25 people. I expanded my classes into a hall. Most of my students were all stressed out and were seeking ways to deal with their stress at home and work. I decided to run my first local retreat in Anglesea, which was a huge success.
I taught participants different ways to look and deal with stress. I have always been very passionate about giving people the tools to support the person they want to be. Then it becomes obvious to me that people were stuck in their negative beliefs and outdated habits.
So I offered 1:1 session, course and retreats to help people understand they can change these limiting beliefs. By listening to the needs of my clients I have been able to adapt my retreats and workshops to meet them where they are at.
How is your repeat customer rate like? Can you take us through how you attract and retain customers?
So far 95% on my customers is word of mouth. I offer an incentive program for customers who refer friends or family. For each referral, they receive $50 off their next session. This motivated people to make referrals. They are helping me, themselves and their friend, so it works well.
I offer discounts for repeat customers for my retreats
Some of my students have been with me for 15 years. I often have students and clients who return over the years.
I am focused on building a community, support, and inspiration.
What is the current situation? How do you see yourself in the next 12 months?
I am also building a new website, to increase my exposure.
I have been presenting a workshop on Stress Management at Corporate events, which has been a huge success.
Recently I was invited to Greece to assist a friend in a mindset workshop. The door over there for future opportunities has now been open and discussions are on the table for next year.
As a woman founder, do you see this as only financially uplifting? Or otherwise too? If yes, then how?
Yes, finance is a big part, as I am a single mum of two beautiful boys. However, my main motivation has always been helping people. The satisfaction I experience as I watch the transformation with the clients far exceeds any fiscal benefits.
As people become empowered, healed and are happier within themselves, they share this with every person, animal and plant around them. Ultimately we are making the world a better place.
What tools or services did you use?
Yoga, Meditation, ceremonies, rituals, workshops to teach people about their beliefs, energy, stress and mindset, PSYCH-K, various healing modalities ie Reiki, CyberScan – a biofeedback machine, and of course retreats.
What are your key challenges today? How are you planning to tackle those?
Key challenges are to reach more people so I can help more people, who in turn will help more people. I don’t see anything as challenging, but rather growth opportunities.
I believe we need a good team around up to support all aspects of our business. So right now I am looking for the right team and strategic alliances to expand my reach.
Which are some resources, books, articles or podcasts that have been useful to you, and would share with your readers
Many times, women feel that businesses are for only for men. What’s your take?
That is just a belief. If some woman believes that I would be asking them “how is that working for you”. We get to choose our beliefs if they are not supporting us to be the person who we want to be then I suggest we change them. We want our beliefs, habit, and actions to be in alignment with our goals. Anything else is limiting and hard work

I interview women founders in building profitable businesses??
My idea is for other women to get inspired by these actionable tell-all stories and start their own profitable enterprises.
I am hugely inspired by inspirational interview series starters like IndieHackers, StarterStory by Pat Walls, Failory, SpaceBandits and have put significant efforts in reaching out to women founders in order to get started.
